2009 Gingerbread Parade of Homes

ANNAPOLIS, MARYLAND, Monday, September 14, 2009—Historic Annapolis Foundation and Long & Foster Real Estate in Eastport are teaming up to celebrate the holiday season with the 2009 Gingerbread Parade of Homes Gingerbread House Competition. The entire community – kids, youth groups, families, adults, architects, designers and professional chefs are all invited to create one-of-a-kind gingerbread houses.

The contest will feature four categories, child, family/group, adult non-professional and professional. Gingerbread houses will be displayed at businesses throughout the Annapolis Historic District from December 3-19. Visitors can pick up a map and cast their ballots for their favorite masterpiece at HistoryQuest, 99 Main Street in downtown Annapolis. Celebrity judges will award winners in the professional category on Saturday, December 5. The People’s Choice awards will be announced at a reception on Saturday, December 19.

Historic Annapolis Foundation president John Guild said, “The gingerbread house competition is a fun and unique way of promoting Historic Annapolis Foundation’s mission of preserving the architecture of Annapolis. It is our hope that the entrants will take their inspiration from the many architectural styles located throughout the city.”

In addition to the competition, Historic Annapolis Foundation is planning its holiday decorations at the William Paca House around the theme “Gingerbread.” The Foundation’s vice president for collections and interpretation, Heather Ersts said, “We will use the William Paca House holiday installation to illustrate the history and importance of ginger and gingerbreads.” Ms. Ersts is also planning a series of workshops and programs throughout the month of December.

For contest rules and guidelines and an entry form, visit Gingerbread Contest or call 410-267-8146.
