The Paca Garden features include terraces, a summerhouse, an ornamental bridge and a fish pond.
Jean Brinton Jaecks, landscape and garden watercolorist, conducts this landscape painting workshop, meeting once in each season of the year. The first session will begin outside with Jean demonstrating as she paints the winter garden. Traditional methods of watercolor will be demonstrated including washes, dry brush and textural techniques. Her focus will be the study of light in a garden setting. Participants then choose their viewpoints and execute their own sketches and paintings. Artists are welcome to work in any medium. All levels of students are welcome. Small class size allows plenty of access to the instructor and a detailed critique at the end. A warming room and hot beverages will be provided at the winter session. Subsequent workshops are held en plein air, in the garden, and continue to explore light in the garden under the influence of different seasons.
Workshops will be held on Saturdays, February 27, April 17, August 7 and October 16, from 9 am to 1 pm. Registration is $60 per class; sign up for one or all four. Please dress appropriately for the weather. The winter session will be rescheduled only if driving conditions are dangerous; painting exercises will be adapted to weather conditions. Subsequent classes will meet rain or shine. First class meets at the William Paca House, 186 Prince George Street. Subsequent classes enter the garden through the gate at #3 Martin Street. A supply list is available from the instructor when you register. Please register through Historic Annapolis at www.annapolis.org or call 410-267-8146.
